I hardly blog about my mom, though I found this article my former high school sweetheart had written about my mom. I almost forgot he had written this four years ago about how he admired her hard-working character and that she wasn’t racist. He had preconceived notions that Mom might be racist, mainly because I told him many horrible racist things that my grandmother said.

When I was in junior high, I hung out with magicians and took their little magician’s oath of secrecy. I was never excellent at coin or card tricks, but I knew how some illusions could be accomplished. When I saw Penn and Teller’s magic show at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas, I was blown away with their use of magic tricks to illustrate a larger political narrative relating to constitutional rights. I had been toying with the idea of using magic tricks during a speech before, and so their presentation gave me greater inspiration.

Genderhacking and Diplomacy: To Inspire is Rewarding

I am proud that I am developing the eloquence to inspire and motivate girls into tinkering with technology.

My friend Alexis is studying ethnomusicology in Ireland and approached me with questions on how to build the theremin from scratch. She’s never done anything of the sort before, but was rather excited that she had purchased her own soldering gun. She’s a very bright girl, so I basically explained the schematics as simple as possible without going into much daunting detail, just enough that she’ll just learn more in the hands-on building process for now. I also know that she’ll have other people approach in the UK if she ever gets stuck on a problem.

I may have to find some components and build one, too, as a means to sharpen my skillz. Another reason that she approached me, and pitched the idea, was because she generally knows that we have a shared interest in history. Hopefully my hardware hacker friends like Mr. Wirehead would work with me if I run in to trouble.

Fire the Friendly Missiles

I was reading about the latest Air Force’s Airborne Laser program in January 2007 issue of Nuts and Volts, page 8, and so happened to stumble upon this perplexing bit of semantics:

At its Wichita facility, Boeing recently conducted ground tests of the modified 747-400F freighter that will carry a high-energy laser to provide early interception of unfriendly missiles.

If there are “unfriendly” missiles, then what on Earth are “friendly” missiles?

Wrauket, the fun-loving phallic thing. I imagine it’s some guy in a missile suit who’s really good with children.

You see, this lack of understanding in nomenclature is perhaps why Lockheed rejected my résumé.

Dream: Joining the Dark Side

I had a dream last night where I was a Jedi Master who eventually joined the Dark Side. They made me wear a wedding ring as a reminder of my loyalties — kind of how nuns wear rings to symbolize their marriage to Christ. Even though I love reading and fantasizing about villains in fiction, I would not like to be on the Board of Stereotypical Villains. They kind of treat one another like crap. Also, Storm Troopers can’t fire for shit. According to Spaceballs, all space minions are cross-eyed.
